Acqui Terme

The presence of a Jewish community in Acqui dates back to the second half of the 15th century. Various ups and downs marked the life of the small community, which from 1731 was forced to reside in the ghetto. Approximately 180 people, with numbers expected to increase, were thus forced to live in a small neighborhood near the Acqua Bollente fountain.
The Synagogue, renovated in 1888 and abandoned and dismantled in the 1960s, was located under the Saracco porticoes. From the second half of the 19th century, the Albertine emancipation allowed the approximately 500 inhabitants to exercise their civil and religious rights on a par with other citizens.
